Lazy Monday: Wrappings

As promised here are two photos of the many wrappings I've been working on. The centre blocks are small pieces of driftwood, the branches are apple twigs the bunny has chewed the bark off, the paper is from an old banana fibre calendar, and they are bundled together with cotton string. In these photos the wrappings are sitting on driftwood but I haven't decided yet how or what to attach them to, or if they need to be attached to anything. Any suggestions?

I only have five days to get everything done for the Nanaimo Artwalk Summer 2012..... good thing it's still raining!

  1. I think the way you have them now on the worn wood is a good presentation. Also wonder what they would look like on some kind of ecodyed muslin/raw silk/worn out and tattered remnant cloth backing and set in a shadow box type frame under glass or plexi - like an artifact... I love these,Carole, very mysterious. -sus

    1. Sus, I like the idea of the eco-dyed fabric. I might even have an old shadow box frame kicking around!

  2. Hello Carole, I have been a non-blogger a week or so.. I am amazed that you can turn rubbish into art! Have you got everything ready for the Artwalk?

    1. Hi Lise, I've missed you! I'm spending most of my time working on the Artwalk paintings!

  3. Love these Carole - are you moved to alter them or are you wondering whether or not to? What about a grouping of them - like a community of these "creatures" or :treasures" . Maybe something peeking from inside to keep the viewer wondering what could be inside? :-) Good luck with your Artwalk!

    1. Jane, I'm liking the community idea. Will ponder it tomorrow again when I'm wide awake, it's too late now to get my brain going again! Thanks.

  8. Good luck with getting your work together for the art walk.
I really like your bundles & think they would look great inside of a shadow box,
    single or in groupings.

    1. Thank you Marie.
I looked at some shadow boxes today.....they've gotten expensive since I was a picture framer! I'm still playing with the bundles so I don't think they will be finished by this weekend. :(

  9. I have a thing for wrapped bundles and these are really intriguing. I love the numbers showing between the strands of string. They look good on the driftwood but I also like the idea of a shadow box, especially an aged box.

  11. I don't know if this fit in with N.Artwalk. But I would have liked these to hang in a trea. They are so organic. And I would lie on the ground watching them. Hope you take some pictures of the result anyway. Good luck- have fun!

    1. Line.....that's a great idea! We have trees in the front yard where people enter the studio. I could put blankets on the lawn for people to lie on!

I've decided to hold off showing these wrappings at this Artwalk. I'm going to make many, many more of them.
      Thanks.
