New Paintings For the Nanaimo Summer Artwalk 2012

So much rain has fallen on my Island in the past two days that I've been able to ignore the garden and get back into my studio. Below are a couple of things I've been working on. The first is a pastel in my Moleskine. This little guy was so cute I had to paint him and some others onto  four 6"X6" canvases. Each of these canvases will have found wood attached on three sides to make it look as if the rabbits are in rabbit hutches. I'll post pictures on my Lazy Monday post.

This second piece has changed a lot since I took the photo (the ears are shorter and thicker, the right leg more in proportion to the size of the body) but I wanted you to see this one at different stages. This is painted on a wooden cradle board which allows me to be pretty rough with it including sanding it back every so often! Oh I love being a painter!

All of these paintings will be available at the Nanaimo Summer Artwalk 2012 on June 23 & 24. My studio will be open from 11am-5pm both days. I'm looking forward to talking to everyone and meeting new art lovers.

  1. Hi Carole, We've had 6 days of rain...I want to see the sun...Really bad.

I love the second painting here! Long ears and all. It's intriguing and the background is amazing! That kind of background is VERY hard to do convincingly and you've got it! Love the colors! (Groovy!!!)

    1. Most rabbits are shy but we had on named Miss Piggy that was quite a character....shy not being one of them! Kristen I like the term bunny-hood......I could see a gang of bunnies from the hood! :)

    1. Our little Mayo inspired the bunny pastel. I hope this rain is long gone for the Artwalk! I'd love it if you could get down here for a visit, Sus! Only what 4 or 5 days of driving?

  10. Carole I love the circle background for this sweet thing. It reminds me of green plant life. The kind of green plant life that only comes from rain, rain and more rain. And the circles are like when you take a photograph and the wet drops turn into prisms of glorious green and colors close to green like yellow and blue...and pink...and ochre...and... *smiles* Norma

    1. Norma, thank you for your observations. It really helps to hear what you have to say about the paintings.

  11. Maybe the rain is telling you to keep painting! I like both of these bunny paintings even though they are so totally different. I think my style would be favoring the first, but I like the design of the second...So hard to decide!
