With all the paper folding going on I haven't picked up a paintbrush for what feels like a very long time. I'm missing the immediacy of colour and composition paint brings to the canvas. Folding is slow methodical work. It's hard on the fingers! I've been using my ancient bone folder to get a really good crease along the thicker folds.

When I need to get away from the table I pack myself up and head off to the thrift shops to find more wooden boxes. I couldn't believe my luck when I opened these three boxes to find dividers. Bonus!

I could only go so long until the need for colour tempted me to bring out the ink pads.

| ink added to pencil drawing Are you in love with colour? What media do you use to add colour to your art? Or do you work in whites, greys, or black? |

Missed visiting you also. Time flies by. Have to have color. And am getting more discriminating with what tones I like. Only figured this out recently when I wasn't happy with the overall 'look' of a painting. Learn something new everyday!
ReplyDeleteThank goodness we are learning something new everyday! Keeps the mind young and the paintings fresh but Robin, I've always enjoyed your colour selections so your paintings must be getting close to perfection!!! :)
DeleteHello Carole! You ask if I am in love with color? I live for color. My absolute favorite thing in the world...the reason I paint. And I don't have a favorite color. It's all about how color reacts to color. The mood, the song, the temperature. I will use any media available. Usually paint, often ink, or pieces of anything.
ReplyDeleteHi Sharon. Your love for colour is something I love about your paintings. Aren't we fortunate to have so much around us.
Deletelove finding a bonus at the thrift store...
ReplyDeleteYup, makes the hunt extra special, Amy!
DeleteYes, yes yes - I am totally in love with color. My personal challenge to myself lately is to become more intentional about its use so that it has more visual (and symbolic) impact. I am away from painting right now on wearable art project, and long to have that immediacy back myself. Your folding intrigues! Hope to see the finished project. -sus
ReplyDeleteI never would have guessed, Sus! Your use of colour is awe inspiring to me. More folding photos soon. xo
DeleteI LOVE colour but find that a limited palette often has more impact.
ReplyDeleteHey Jo, I agree that often the limited palette has more impact. It's certainly true on my walls.....hanging paintings on lighter colours often highlights the paintings more than when hung on vividly coloured walls. But then again.........
ReplyDeletethanks for all your lovely comments, carole!
ReplyDeleteas you know i love all the colours of nature.
"she" is my perfect teacher concerning composition, weighting and restrained colours. like to go deeper!

P.S. Don't miss my giveaway!!!
Hi Barbara. I'm filling these boxes with folded papers for a much bigger project I'm working on. I'm heading over to check out your giveaway!
DeleteI DO love color, but lately for some reason I find myself wanting to tone it down. I am practicing minimal use of color in my sketchbooks with charcoal and graphite pencils and then adding a splash of acrylic or watercolor or pastel.
ReplyDeleteYou are showing your extreme patience with all those perfectly folded papers! I should thrift shop more too to find things for my new space. Thanks for the reminder! xo
Lisa, it's interesting how we artists can go through times of craving and using colour and then times of little colour. I wonder how much it is influenced by where we paint and what's happening in our lives. Now get thrift shopping!!! xo
Deletecolor is emotion to me, pure joy and one of the great gifts of life, i like bright colors but lately i'm also working with more subdued, softer colors and find that very satisfying too.
ReplyDeletethe thrift shop is one of my favorite shops, i'm sure i would have brought those boxes home ;) xx
Hello Renilde. So true. If I ever get to your side of the world we'll go thrift shopping together.xo
DeleteI love color! too, I'm always looking for it focusing in on it and dreaming about it...I wonder what that's all about- it's intangible and yet everywhere how it makes you feel the immense variation of color- ahhh!
ReplyDeleteScore with the boxes! can't wait to see what your up to with them :)
Hey Kristen, ah the variation of colour and feelings toward it. I'll post pictures soon.
