Guessing Game: What's This?

This was just one of those days when I couldn't get into the studio because..................

I spent the morning snuggling with grandbaby #2. This afternoon I called the police. Last night  I noticed something stuffed into our front hedge but I thought it was just garbage. Today when I looked again I was surprised to find something else. I didn't want to bother the police but I thought to myself "If someone stole something out of my house I'd like it found and returned" and "maybe there are traceable fingerprints." So as I said, I called them.

Now let's play a guessing game.  What's this?

1.

2.

3.

Hints for 1 and 3

3.

Answers:

rusty scissors and string balls
1.

Robin Hood flour bag
2.

wisteria seed pods
3.

And now for the police visit and what I found under the hedge.

Neither the clock or the vase are of any real value so I'm not expecting a $1,000,00 reward, but I hope they find their ways back home. Have you every called the police?

  1. We called the police last fall. I woke up to hear footsteps on the street - odd ones. I looked out my window and saw someone staggering from car to car, shining a flashlight in each one. The police came, caught the fellow, and it turns out that he is well known thief who steals stuff from people's cars.

I guessed shears of some sort from the first photos.

  2. Yay, that thief was caught! I'm not sure this one will be.
Good guess, Lorrie. I found them on the beach so who knows how old they are.

  3. How odd...the thief left these under the hedge? Children playing perhaps?

  4. this was fun! I guess old hedge clippers for the first one. Once when we lived in Victoria I called the police when someone got into our open car in our open garage and rumaged around and left stuff strew across the front seats. Nothing of value to steal and the police weren't interested. Kind of creepy though.

  5. Hmmm...what a strange assortment of stuff to steal. A very eccentric burglar.

  6. I had occasion to call the cops several times when we lived in Seattle, in rather more serious circumstances unfortunately. Since moving back on the little island here, the only time we call them is to ask if the power is out in town as well as at our place. Fun post, Carole - have a good weekend snuggling. -sus

  7. I guessed the scissors but not the wisteria. That was good of you to call the police. The most recent time I called them was when a large amount of scary noise was happening outside-screeching tyres, screaming, help me help me type shouting, more screaming. I was in my pajamas so didn't go out, and looking out could not see what was happening but could see a car with a load of people gathered around it. The police came, ambulances, fire engines, all in our little crossroad area. It turned out that a car had been driven at a group of boys deliberately, running one of them over and trapping him under the car. The whole thing went on for a good few hours-they had to raise the car with airbags. Luckily he was ok. Scary!

    1. The wisteria was tricky because most people haven't ever seen their seeds or pods.
Wow, noises in the night are scary enough without someone really needing help! Good of you to call in the police, Sarah. A woman in Nanaimo was calling for help but when the neighbours were asked if they heard anything they thought her voice was a cat or racoon crying. No one checked it out. Sadly, she was being attacked.
